Ocean Energy - Dissemination activities (EU-OEA)
There are numerous separate research and deployment activities in ocean energy systems being supported by various organisations, agencies of individual member states and the EC under FP / FP6. However, these are often disparate and, in the eyes of potential stakeholders and the public, they often do not constitute a “significant” industry or technology area. The EU-OEA will address this apparent lack of cohesion and visibility by focussing on specific activities :
- providing a platform for individuals, groups and organisations undertaking research so that new knowledge can be shared and disseminated between all interested parties;
- raising the profile of ocean energy by presenting at least one EU-wide workshop devoted to this subject;
- engaging researchers and developers within the fledging ocean energy industry so that promising methodologies and technologies have a potential root to market and for these reasons have targeted extensive SME involvement;
- providing an authoritative contribution to assist in scoping policies on this technology;
- raising the profile of ocean energy by developing presentation materials and having a “presence” at four more general renewable energy events.
One key aspect of these activities will be liaising closely with the Coordinated Action on Ocean Energy (CA-OE) and the International Energy Agency (IEA).
The specific project objectives of the EU-OEA project are :
- to develop, implement and maintain a website;
- to co-organise one EU conference in ocean energy;
- to develop a road-map for ocean energy sector and market development;
- to contribute to defining and implementing European policies on ocean energy within the scope of FP7 by preparing a white paper on the state of the ocean energy sector and its statistics for the distribution to the members of the European Parliament and by conducting an event for the members of the European Parliament to promote the potential and the needs of the ocean energy sector to advance it from the RTD stage to a commercial stage;
- to participate on European renewable energy events;
- to establish close association with educational institutions.
