The Directive will be – with further improvement –
a major tool for a sustainable market development of the renewable
energy sector and for reaching the 20% target. Under the Renewables
Directive, member states are required to adopt national targets for
renewables that are consistent with reaching the Commission’s target of
22 per cent of electricity from renewables by 2010. The indicative
target that the proposal sets for the UK is 10 per cent of electricity
by that date. The directive also requires that Member States ensure
that a guarantee of origin is issued on request in respect of
electricity generated from eligible renewable energy sources, as
defined by the directive.
EU-OEA response to the Second Energy Review
EU-OEA’s response to the European Commission’s Second Strategic Energy Review: An EU Energy Security and Solidarity Action Plan
EU proposition to re-allocate 3.5 billion euro to clean energy projects
Brussels, 28 January 2009 Presenting
the plans , European Commission President José Manuel Barroso said the
projects would represent a "smart investment" for the EU as it battles
a deepening economic downturn.
Under the plans, a total of €3.5 billion will be devoted to clean
energy projects, while €1 billion will support broadband Internet. A
further €500 million is earmarked for tackling new agricultural
challenges such as climate change, renewable energy, water management
and restructuring the dairy sector.
The work of the European Ocean Energy Association is partly funded under the 6th Framework Programme. The financial support from the European Community is gratefully acknowledged.
